KAPAR MP S. Manikavasagam wants more police presence in his constituency as he claims there has been a rise in serious crime cases over the last few months.
He told Malay Mail that Kapar is a growing town and has always been associated with gangsterism, violence and crime.
“Since the early 90s, Kapar has always been associated with all the wrong things. This must change. Despite numerous efforts by the police, there have been more serious crime cases here. In the last two monthsalone, there have been two murders,” said the first term MP after attending V. Rajagopal’s funeral last Friday.
Rajagopal, a security guard, was killed by four men who tried to rob the factory he was guarding at Kampung Perepat last Thursday.
Manikavasa gam said that after a dialogue with the police, it was learnt that the police force generally is lacking in manpower.
“But, the Home Ministry must do something about this. Our police force should be beefed up,” he said.
Selangor police chief DCP Datuk Khalid Abu Bakar called for Klang folk to be patient as the force is working towards enhancing its services and increasing its workforce. There are also plans to open a new district police headquarters in Klang in the near future.
“We will be opening a new district headquarters to cater for the northern Klang area. It will be operational probably by the end of the year or early next year. This station will hopefully be able to overcome the shortage of police personnel in Kapar and its surrounding areas,” he said.
