Is time running out for both Badawi and Anwar?

While Prime Minister Badawi has been working hard to defend his dearest UMNO position rather then serving the PEOPLE. What has he done since March 8 election beside increasing fuel prices, announcing his 2 years retirement plan , interfering into Anwar’s sodomy investigation and locking Kuala Lumpur with more then 1,600 police personnel?

These are some of the pressing issues we are now facing :

1) Highest Inflation of 7% or more since 1982?

2) Bursa Malaysia Index plunged to lowest since 2006 recently.

3) Malaysia’s Global Competitiveness at 21st rank compare to Singapore at 7th rank , Korea at 11th rank , Hong Kong at 12th rank , and China at 17th rank. ( Click Here to view Full Ranking)

4) Hong Kong and Singapore occupy the top two positions in the Enabling Trade Index ranking pushing Malaysia far away to 29th position. ( Click Here to view Full Ranking). Our Government never realise this Index to Public.

5) The emergent of Global Risks such as financial risks, food security, supply Chain vulnerability and energy risks.

Analyzing the most problematic factors for doing business ( click to view chart) Malaysia stands Proudly as most corrupted Nations with comparison with Singapore, Hong Kong , Korea, UAE and Japan. Surprisingly, as second Most Inefficient Government Bureaucracy after Japan.

Economist expects real GDP growth to average 5.9% a year in 2008-2012, mainly due to domestic demand. The higher oil prices lifted business costs that subsequently affect profit margins. Shocked by the magnitude of increase in oil prices, the Consumer Sentiments Index (CSI) has fallen very sharply to an all-time low of 70.5 points in 2Q08, from 115.5 in 1Q08, a signal of strong public displeasure and collective public reaction to the recent subsidy cut.

Double Digit Export growth mainly due to increase in Global Commodity price such as Oil Palm prices from merely RM1,500.00 level to RM 3,500 level and Petroleum price from US$60/barrel to US$140/barrel. Oil Palm price set to face south with more then 2.0 million metric tones stocks in holding. Once most sought after for Bio-fuel, Oil Palm now no longer cost competitive for it. Thousand of Hundreds hectares of Land been cleared in Sarawak for the purpose of Bio-fuels and numbers of Bio-fuels productions installations now facing closure due to higher raw material cost.

Current Government are caught in between planters and Bio-fuels Installations investors. Higher commodity prices would ensure stable spending power of rural households but not for Bio-fuel industry owners. Can they save both?

The increased of food prices and Petrol mainly due to speculative investors whom turned to this sectors as a “safe haven”, driving up prices in the process. This is made worse by food exporting nations restricting their exports to ensure that they are not faced with unexpected food shortages domestically. Barisan Nasional Government failed to act to immediately increase local food productions as fast as they act fact to open us new oil palm plantations. Since they can’t manipulate anything them to make money there.

BN Malaysian government steps to boost spending in food production and agriculture also worries that agriculture would take the form of corporate agriculture – with expensive inputs of fertilizers and pesticides – that could turn farmers from independent decision makers to contract workers. Corporation like Sime Darby may wrest control of the food chain, from the supply of seeds to farmers to retailing through hypermarkets.

It looks like the policy has lost its way of meeting the top most objective of feeding the nation.
