Barisan Nasional finally announce it’s Permatang Pauh by election candidate wednesday night. Malaysiakini report By-election: Arif Shah is BN’s choice (http://www.malaysiakini.com/news/87758) that the coalition place its hopes on Seberang Jaya assemblyperson Arif Shah Omar Shah to go head on against PKR leader Anwar Ibrahim in the Aug 26 by-election.
Placing Arif Shah who speak fluent Mandarin and two-term Seberang Jaya state representative seen as a move to win back Chinese voters or at least split their votes. Permatang Pauh has 58,459 including 490 postal voters as o July 31, 2008 comprising 68.5 per cent Malays, 24.79 per cent Chinese, 6.3 per cent Indians 0.41 per cent others.
Arif Shah Omar Shah born in Taiping ,Perak is brother of Corporate figurehead Tan Sri Amin Shah Executive Chairman of PSC Industries Bhd as company linked to failure of RM5.4billion to complete the construction of six patrol vessels at the initial stage, followed by another RM25bil to build 21 more vessels later.
Arif Shah was former Permatang Pauh Umno Youth chief when Anwar was the division chief .
