Pulau Ketam : Sultan’s Helipad Stays
Leave the helipad alone, say Pulau Ketam residents
RESIDENTS of Klang are furious over the construction of a restaurant close to the Sultan of Selangor’s helicopter pad and are calling for immediate action by relevant authorities.
On July 9, the Pulau Ketam village head, accompanied by several residents, lodged a police report over the construction.
“We are afraid that this might anger the Sultan. The owners should not have done this,” said one of the residents of Pulau Ketam, who declined to be named.
The helipad was used during emergencies and for special occasions but now posed a risk for any helicopter to land there.
State executive councillor for Education, Higher Education and Human Development Halimah Ali, who is also the Klang Selat assemblyman, was informed of this by the Pulau Ketam Village committee.
“I checked with the Land Office and they told me that there was no approval for the construction on that land. The land office did not even issue a temporary occupation licence (TOL) for the land,” she said.
“The State has not given any approval either. Therefore, a notice was issued by the Land Office warning the
owners of the restaurant that it will be demolished by the authorities if they do not stop construction,” added the first-term State assemblywoman.
“The State always encourages its people to start businesses, as it is good for the economy, but laws and procedures must be followed. We do not encourage any illegal activities.”
A spokesman for the Klang Muncipal Council told Malay Mail that action can be taken by the council.
“We can act against the restaurant, as it is illegal. But we shall wait and see if the Land Office takes any action first as they have the right to do so,” the spokesman said.
