SPOT CHECK on Air Pollution

Author: Office of Mp Kapar | Files under Kapar

Kapar MP S. Manikavasagam made a spot check to factories around Sungai Puloh Industrial Area on complaints received from nearby housing area.

I don’t understand how the previous state administration approved housing project surrounded by charcoal processing factories. There are also plan to build two primary schools  here . Beside the residents including pregnant ladies , health young childrens had gambled by corrupted persons.

I was informed that Prime Minister, Department of Environment , Former Selangor State Government were aware of this problem but no steps been taken yet added Manikavasagam after visiting the factories. While, current State Government trying best it could.

Also understood beside few charcoal plant, there are big timber processing plant , paint factories own by well known Malaysian Corporate Companies. I would like to call upon the Industries and Developers to show their corporate social responsibilities.

We  already met residents , developer ,  State Exco member and now we want to hear from Industries nearby on possible solution.

Manikavasagam is expected to hold Press Conference soon on this matter.

    Dear Mr. S. Manikavasagam,

thanks a lot for spending your valuable time to have a personal spot check at the air polluter factories around Sungai Puloh Area.

Let me have some comments(C) and questions(Q) to your summary and impression of the problems.

    Q) I have learned the Selangor Government will legalese some of 3,000 illegal factories operating within the Selangor district zone (reference: http://thestar.com.my/news/story.asp?file=/2008/10/24/nation/2359465&sec=nation). Will this factory (your story) be within this amnesty?

C/Q) You mid have right, the state administration have to take more care to a prove housing projects, but on the other hand how about the environment issue, which is related/controlled by the government (Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment), is the hot line (http://www.doe.gov.my) of DOE useless? – or the labour protection issue, which have a link to an other Ministry ? I can not image the healthy prorata of the staffs working in this factory …. beside to the effects to the people living beside. Malaysia wants to have the acceptance of a leading country (WAWASAN 2020), but this acceptance of the problem brings Malaysia far beyond to be so ……

I understood from your story, there will be in the near future a press conference to address the problem in public. Please let me know the outcome of it.

Further more I’m quite interested how PKR will handle the issue in the interest of the people living around the area and of course in the interest of our nature.

    TQ and awaiting your feedback

    Best Regards,

    Gunther
