Striving for a better Malaysia

Author: Office of Mp Kapar | Files under Kapar, Local news

My dreams are simple. I just want a better Malaysia for all Malaysians. In the mean time, I’ll start with Kapar.

I’M no stranger to challenges, as I have been in and out of prison 12 times due to politics. I have been with PKR’s Youth wing for 7 years.

My interest in politics is mainly fuelled by my desire to see a better Malaysia.

My greatest concern now is serving my constituents in Kapar as it is a large constituency. That is why I have set up four service centres: in Pekan Kapar, Selat Klang, Meru and Sungai Pinang, to cater to my constituents.

I spend most of my time at my service centres and if there are no parliamentary proceedings, I would be there as I like my constituents to know that their elected representative is working hard instead of just sitting around in the office.

I receive about 50 to 60 people at the centres and about 600 complaints a day. I try to accommodate them all as MPs are owned by the people who voted for them and it is their responsibility to ensure that the people’s interests and issues are brought to the attention of the government.
Although I am new in Kapar, the issues affecting my constituents are close to my heart, such as the rising crime rate and land ownership issues. There have been complaints from my constituents that when they go to pay their taxes, the ownership of the land has been changed.

And it’s not only one isolated case. This is really baffling as these people have been living or working on the land for years. I will be raising this issue in Parliament soon.

Snatch theft and house break-ins have also become rampant in my constituency, so I’ll be arranging for a dialogue with the police soon to discuss measures that should be taken to curb these crimes.

I am also very concerned about human rights issues. Because of my experience in prison, I have witnessed first hand the conditions and mental torture that the inmates are subjected to.

A cell that is designed for 10 people would be filled with 15 or more inmates. This should be changed. Even if they are criminals, they are still human.

My dreams are simple. I just want a better Malaysia for all Malaysians. In the mean time, I’ll start with Kapar.
